Yours Truly - Abby Jimenez

can't help falling in love with you

When I say that I tore through this book, I mean it. I fell in love with these characters, their depth, their growth, all of it.

Now that I said all of that.. let’s talk about it. A couple of weeks ago, I binged Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. At the time, I didn’t know that it was three-part series, but I coincidentally had bought the second and third books in the Part of Your World series.

I know I’m late on the bandwagon for this author, but holy shit, her writing style speaks to me. Her books alternate POVs from the male and female MCs, so you know and feel what both characters are experiencing.

As a healthcare girly, I don’t usually like consuming healthcare movies / books / TV shows (except for Grey’s Anatomy… cult classic). BUT, I truly loved how both the characters working in healthcare was a comfortable environment.

I didn’t feel confused by reading what a lawyer or an accountant or a marketing specialist is doing. I get it. Niche preference. Buuuut it was healthcare without trauma dumping or triggering content (never have I ever wanted to read about a med-surge, a morgue, or an OR). Both of the MCs are ER doctors, Jacob switching from his old hospital to a new one, one where Briana already works at and has for years.

They immediately get off to a horrible start, and while Briana thinks she hates Jacob, Jacob is being qualified to be Briana’s brothers’ kidney donor. The plot progresses into a fake dating trope because Briana “owes” Jacob for saving her brother.

There’s drama, there’s passion, there’s a slowburn romance, there’s even the inevitable “there’s only one bed” chapter. And trust me when I say slowburn romance….. it’s slow. It’s not the steamy or passionate back and forth that we see with a lot of fantasy books (looking at you, Fourth Wing), but it’s a realistic slow.

Worth noting.. our main characters are in their early thirties and NOT early twenties.

You’re probably reading that, and thinking, “duh, of course they’re not Mary” buuuuuut in so many beach reads or romance novels, your main characters are barely adults. As a 23 year old, I don’t mind this… but it is nice to have variety and representation for readers who aren’t in their early/mid twenties.

Overall, I was obsessed with this book and the writing style. Any book written by Abby Jimenez is an immediate “buy” from now on.
